The details.

Man Proof Your Ring is a silicone backup ring, supplied in the same size as your metal wedding band. It's the ring you wear when your real ring shouldn't be there — the gym, the worksite, the garden, the water — so the band you actually care about stays safe.

Most blokes only realise they need a backup after their main ring takes a hit at the gym or on the tools. A silicone backup costs less than the engraving fee on most wedding bands — and saves the ring you actually care about.

  • Quality silicone in the same size as your metal band — wear it to the gym, on site, playing sport, or to bed.
  • Heat- and chemical-resistant silicone that won't deform like cheap supermarket rings.
  • A smarter choice around tools and machinery, where wearing a metal band isn't safe.

Ordering it alongside a metal ring? Your backup comes in the same size as the band in your order. Ordering it on its own? Just leave your ring size in the order notes at checkout.

Purchased this with my partners ring for if (WHEN) he loses it. Fantastic option at a reasonable price to guarantee a replacement of same/similar quality.

Thank you for offering this for all the people who would like that additional peace of mind!

Wish it was available when I bought my husband his first ring, hopefully never have to again but a great idea and a great price

Finding the material, size and style for my husband’s wedding band was a breeze. I was delighted by the variety of styles given my husband wears a size Z and was specifically after a tungsten steel band. He doesn’t know I’ve found what he’s looking for so I’ll be sure to post an update after Christmas. Thanks to Men’s Rings Online the shopping was great, the service was excellent and the shipping was exceptional. I will definitely recommend this service to anyone looking for a great gift for the men in their lives.

Excellent service

No problems at all.

Great website, plenty of info intuitively layed out.
Ring sizer was spot on!
As for the ring, it is Awesome!
Cheers

The service was great. We loved the quality of the ring and the packaging it came in. It was a bit odd having the ring sizer come with a ring we already purchased, but it actually helped us when the ring was too big to work out a good size. The returns process was very simple. The only negative was that the confirmation emails failed to send automatically after ordering and I had to contact support to get the emails sent.

Excellent. Very happy with the ring quality and design

Thank you very much! Such a great idea to be able to "man proof your ring" my fiancé will definitely benefit from this service given his track record! The ring is amazing, it arrived so quickly and fits perfectly.

Very happy that this is an option when purchasing my partnered wedding band

Caring for your Tungsten ring

Tungsten carbide is one of the hardest metals used in jewellery, scoring around 9 on the Mohs scale, so day-to-day scratches from desks, tools and gym equipment rarely leave a mark. Wipe the ring with a soft cloth and warm soapy water every week or two to lift skin oils and soap residue, then dry it fully before putting it back on. Avoid dropping it on tile or concrete — tungsten resists scratching but can chip or fracture from a hard impact.

Take the ring off before heavy lifting, contact sports or rock climbing, since unlike softer metals tungsten cannot be cut off with standard ring cutters in an emergency (medics use a vice-grip crack method instead). The polish holds for years without re-buffing, and the ring will not tarnish, oxidise or react with chlorine in pools or spas.

Common questions about Tungsten rings

Is tungsten a good metal for a men's wedding ring in NZ?

Yes — tungsten is the most scratch-resistant ring metal sold in New Zealand and holds its mirror polish through years of trades work, farming or office wear. It sits in the mid-price band (well under most gold options) and ships free across NZ. The main trade-off is that it cannot be resized, so getting the fit right at order time matters.

Can tungsten rings be cut off in an emergency?

Yes, but not with a standard ring cutter. NZ emergency departments and jewellers use locking pliers or a vice-grip to apply pressure at two points until the ring cracks cleanly into two halves, which actually comes off faster than sawing through gold. Always tell medical staff the ring is tungsten so they grab the right tool.

Will a tungsten ring turn my finger green or black?

No. Quality tungsten carbide rings use a nickel-free binder and are hypoallergenic, so there is no oxidation transfer to skin. If you see grey marks it is usually a metallic-soap reaction from heavy hand-cream or sunscreen — wash with warm water and it lifts off.

How do I get the right tungsten ring size in NZ?

NZ ring sizing uses the same A–Z letter scale as Australia and the UK, so any NZ jeweller can size you for free. Because tungsten cannot be resized after manufacture, we recommend getting sized at the end of the day when fingers are at their largest, and ordering a half-size up if you work outdoors in cold weather.

Considering alternatives?

Buyers weighing up tungsten often also look at titanium rings — both are hypoallergenic and modern, but titanium is roughly four times lighter on the finger while tungsten holds a brighter, more scratch-proof polish. Pick tungsten for weight and shine, titanium for an almost-weightless feel.
